Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 has received a major boost in longevity with the arrival of official Steam Workshop support. Following the release of the Confrontation update (patch 14.0), developer Saber Interactive has streamlined the modding process, allowing players to install and manage community-made content with a single click via the Steam client.
To maintain game integrity, the developers have implemented a clear separation between modded and vanilla experiences. When you choose to play with mods, your progress is tracked on a separate save file, and you are automatically excluded from public matchmaking. However, you can still enjoy private sessions with friends using Steam invites or join codes. To prevent confusion, the game displays a clear watermark on the lobby screen whenever a modded session is active.
While the library is currently growing, the community is already porting popular projects to the new platform. The 'Astartes Overhaul'—a comprehensive mod focused on lore-accurate weapons, classes, and enemy types—is among the expected additions. Other fan favorites include 'Deluge,' which increases squad sizes and enemy density for chaotic battles, and 'Primarch Power Fantasy,' designed for players seeking an overpowered combat experience. Players can also look forward to utility-focused mods like the 'Testing Menu' for configuration, 'Noclip' for enhanced photo mode captures, and various visual tweaks like the 'Blood' mod.
The Confrontation update does more than just bring modding tools to the table. It also introduces the formidable Thousand Sons Terminus enemy, expands the arsenal with new Heroic weapons, adds fresh armor sets, and includes two new maps for PvP multiplayer. The update also rounds out the Season 2 cosmetic collection with themed items for the Salamanders and Raptors Chapters.
